What is AI?
Ai, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Tesla is all anyone ever talks about. So what is it, is it a stupid craze or the pivotal start to the new age of man.
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving. Sounds pretty simple, but in reality, it's more complicated than that. even this definition took a long time to come up with. First, crazy cooks in the 1940s were simply defining Ai as ‘cool things that computers can’t do.” The irony is that under this definition. The problem is once you identify a problem and develop a way for a computer to solve it. It doesn’t become AI anymore. So, how do we define it?
Engineers then turned to a new way using what's known as Turing’s test, which basically follows the principle of ‘ stupid is stupid’, in this case, “ intelligent is intelligent”. How this test works is that, if the machine can converse or seem like a human, it is considered an AI, basically, an interpreter would sit in between a machine (considered) as AI, and a human and interpret the conversation. If the machine behaved or fooled the interpreter into thinking it was a real human being. It was considered an AI. I wonder how much he got paid?
Anyways this was eventually proved ineffective as they brought on an AI that loved cars and spoke like a little boy, which confused the judges. Leading to the question to be asked, what is considered Intelligent. After what line does a machine appear and behave human-like. Which leads to the dilemma we face today. What is Ai?
Artificial Intelligence as defined in Wiki as Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals, which involves consciousness and emotionality. The distinction between the former and the latter categories is often revealed by the acronym chosen. ‘Strong’ AI is usually labeled as artificial general intelligence (AGI) while attempts to emulate ‘natural’ intelligence have been called artificial biological intelligence (ABI). Leading AI textbooks define the field as the study of “intelligent agents”: any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of achieving its goals. Colloquially, the term “artificial intelligence” is often used to describe machines that mimic “cognitive” functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as “learning” and “problem-solving”. Even in this definition, you can see, the irregularities. In essence, artificial intelligence is basically the science of study that collects data from its environment, processes it, performs actions to attain or move toward its goal.
Artificial intelligence as a whole encompasses many subdivisions and topics, Natural Language Selection(NLP), Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, even Data Sciences, etc. Artificial Intelligence is such a vast field and until now we’ve only scratched the surface.
